• YEAR NINE SAMPLE LESSONS


    • The Year 9 Sample Lessons are provided as an example of what you will find in this course, they do not represent the complete curriculum covered. 

      Students using the My Homeschool Year 9 Curriculum are usually around 14 or 15 years old. The schedule has been designed to be taught over 4 or 5 days so families have time to pursue individual interests and natural learning.

      Additional instructions for parents, including a Weekly Planner that both parents and students can use, are provided when you purchase the graded course. A comprehensive Resource List is also provided, making it easy for you to prepare for the semester ahead. Many of our resources are in a PDF format that can be downloaded, printed and read offline but also offer Complementary Links that families may wish to use to further enhance the lessons.

      Power of Poetry resource provides background information on the grammar of poetry and the meaning and interpretation of poems plus a poetry anthology for their use for study.

      Throughout the high school years to date your child will have started to learn and develop the skills and techniques to study literature. This is a key aspect of English and thus two novel study guides are provided in your Year 9A course, one for each term. Sense and Sensibility  is covered in Term One and includes the option for a film study too.

      Our Novel Study Guides include a focus on the book itself, including the plot and characters, vocabulary, notes about the geography and setting, aspects of writing techniques. Weekly writing assignments are provided too. The intention is that your teenager is encouraged to be a good and close reader, and for them to appreciate how they can enter into the Great Conversation about books, offering their own views, opinions and insights.

      This resource weaves excerpts from a number of authors across a range of subjects to provide a cross-curriculum approach for writing and expression.  Nature Notes has a focus on landscapes and climate in Semester 1 and mammals and birds during Semester 2.       Biomes and agriculture is the focus for Geography in our 9A course, with students examining the world’s biomes and considering the adaptations that have occurred in these areas. They will also learn about the production of food and fibres and issues around food security. Geography Links include interesting videos to enhance each lesson.

      My Homeschool Music Appreciation Courses incorporate the study of a variety of composers, their life and music and are studied once a week all year. Two music appreciation courses focusing specifically on composers from the modern era are included in the Year 9A course, designed for students of this age and to complement the era of history being studied. This includes Baroque and Classical, a one term resource examining key composers from the Baroque and Classica eras, including JS Bach and Handel and Mozart and Beethoven.

      My Homeschool families have access to a range of online Art Appreciation Courses which examine the study of artists, their work, and techniques. Across all grades these are studied once a week all year.

      In the Year 9 and 10 courses additional specific Art and Music Appreciation Courses are provided for high school students. Art With The Fauves and Capturing Modernity Through Photographs are included in the Year 9A course. Each of these courses run for one term and offer students the opportunity to examine these aspects of art history in detail. They are fully online and include notes to guide your teenager to better understand and appreciate these artworks. Art With The Fauves also includes art exercises to stretch and extend your teenager in various artistic pursuits and to give some variety in the way that you may have approached art appreciation in previous grades.

      All of these activities have been designed to curate a broad educational feast for your teenager and to encourage them to continue to develop their skills and abilities within a range of areas.
